Livingston FC lost 2-1 to Ayr United in their Championship fixture on Saturday, a result that leaves the team fourth in the table. The Lions could not make their numerical advantage count after Ayr's Robbie Taylor was sent off in the 22nd minute.

Owen Stirton gave the visitors an early lead in the eighth minute. Rory Muirhead equalised from the penalty spot eleven minutes later, but Logan McBeth restored Ayr's advantage before half-time. Taylor was shown a straight red card just three minutes after the equaliser, reducing Ayr to ten men for the remainder of the match.

Livingston made five substitutions in the second half in search of an equaliser, but could not find a way through. The team picked up three yellow cards, with Cristian Montaño, James Doherty and Efe Ambrose all cautioned.

The defeat means Livingston remain fourth in the Championship, with 13 points from nine games. Their recent form shows two wins, one draw and two losses from their last five outings.

Livingston's next match is at home against third-placed Partick Thistle on Saturday, 10 October. The full schedule is available on the club's fixtures page.

On October 6, Ayr United manager Gary Naysmith reflected on his side's 2-1 win at Livingston on October 3. Naysmith told reporters he was "delighted with the three points." He added, "It's an unbelievable effort from the players, especially going down to 10 men after 25 minutes." The manager, however, cautioned his team against getting carried away. The result saw goals from Owen Stirton and Luke McBeth for Ayr, with Rory Muirhead scoring for Livingston from the penalty spot.
